We are pleased to announce that SafetyNet, the online system used by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and Radiation Safety Committees (RSC), will undergo a major update this coming weekend. As a result, SafetyNet will be unavailable from 5:00 PM on August 20 until 5:00 PM on August 21.
The update is intended to refresh the appearance of the system and improve navigation; it does not impact the functionality or the processes by which your submissions are reviewed. A summary of changes is available. In addition, we have prepared a series of IBC and RSC instruction guides to help you with routine activities, such as assigning a PI proxy and creating an application. These guides will be available on the SafetyNet home page under Quick Reference Guides and Training Materials after the update:
- IBC Guides: http://safetynet.research.ucla.edu/IBC
- RSC Guides: http://safetynet.research.ucla.edu/RSC
An additional change that will be launched with this update pertains to the reviewer notes that appear within protocol SmartForm, conveying questions and comments from your IBC and RSC reviewers. In the current release of SafetyNet, reviewer comments appear at the top of a page. After the update, reviewers will be able to add comments at the individual question level.
SafetyNet was launched for the IBC in 2015. In 2018, we released SafetyNet-RSC for review of research involving radiological procedures and drugs in human research activities. And just last year, another release allowed for online review of laboratory radiation use, through SafetyNet-RUA. With each release, and with the coming update, our goal is to provide a simple and efficient system for managing your IBC and RSC submissions.
