There are some exciting changes planned for SafetyNet which will ultimately help to streamline the IBC review process and reduce the administrative burden to researchers. These changes involve revisions to the page in the application form currently titled “Operational Risks”. This page will be retitled “Operations and Procedures” and will incorporate the new set of Biosafety SOPs developed by the EH&S Biosafety Office and the IBC. The proposed release date is January 11, 2018.
These changes will impact BUAs as noted below:
- Draft BUAs (Pre-Submission):
If you start a new BUA but do not submit prior to 1/11/18, you will be required to complete the new and modified questions before you can submit. This will also apply to draft amendments that were created before 1/11/18.
- BUAs Currently Under Review:
If you are close to the point of approval, we strongly recommend that you work closely with the IBC Administrative Staff to get your application approved before the 1/11/18 release date so that you are not immediately impacted by these changes. If a BUA is in your possession or needs further updates after the 1/11/18 release date, you will be required to complete the new and modified questions before you can re-submit.
- Approved BUAs:
The next time that you amend your approved BUA or submit a renewal application, you will be required to complete the new and modified questions before you can submit.
For several questions that have been revised in the new “Operations and Procedures” page, you will see your previous response for reference; however, this previous response information will disappear once you have provided a new response. At any point, you will also be able to access your previous responses by looking at the “Snapshots” tab in the BUA workspace.
