As National Biosafety Month continues, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the Biosafety Site Visit and Consultation process. As described in Chapter 11 of the Institutional Biosafety Plan, the process involves the following:
- Biosafety Review: A comprehensive review of the facilities, equipment and practices covered under each BUA is required when a new facility is set up and every 3 years thereafter or whenever significant changes are made that affect the risk assessment.
- Biosafety Checkups: After the initial review, EH&S Biosafety will set up an annual meeting with the PI or a designated representative to facilitate your lab’s continued involvement in the risk assessment process and ensure that your risk mitigation plans continue to meet the specific needs of your lab.
If you have any questions about this process or would like to schedule a review or checkup, please do not hesitate to contact the EH&S Biosafety Office. Contact information is provided below.
