Please note the submission deadlines posted on the ARC website. Submission deadlines are generally 17 days prior to Committee meeting dates. Following review, allow four weeks for receipt of correspondence regarding your application. Upon approval, the ARC will notify the principal investigator, the Office of Sponsored Research if extramural funding sources have been listed, and the appropriate vivarium supervisor. An approved application is valid for one year from the date of approval by the ARC. Approximately 90 days before the expiration date of an approved protocol, the ARC office will send a reminder to submit the annual Continuation Application to the investigator of record. Continuations may be requested for two consecutive years. If after this time the investigator wishes to continue the research, a Renewal Application must be submitted. It is strongly encouraged that Continuation and Renewal applications be submitted no less than 60 days prior to expiration to avoid a lapse in approval. It is a violation of federal regulations and UCLA policy to conduct animal research without an approved protocol; therefore, if a lapse in approval periods occurs, investigators must cease conducting experiments until a new approval is received. Please note that NO exceptions or extensions to protocol approval can be granted.
