You may have heard rumblings about the Chancellor’s Animal Research Committee (ARC) developing a new online system to replace the existing Research Application Tracking System (RATS). Indeed, staff in the Office of Research Administration, in partnership with members of the ARC and select faculty, have worked over the last 2+ years to develop the system that will soon replace our current RATS database.

We will be providing a brief overview of the new system at the February 13, 2020 Research Administration Forum (RAF), as well as at multiple in-depth training sessions offered on campus and in the Wilshire-Glendon Building in the coming months. We encourage all PIs and staff who currently work in RATS to attend a training session for the new system, which takes a very different approach to the protocol application and workflow.

Please review the dates and times listed below and contact arc@research.ucla.edu to register for one of the upcoming training sessions, as seats are limited. At each training, the ARC RATS Coordinator will provide an introduction to the new system, after which attendees will be encouraged to try out the new system themselves by playing in our sandbox environment. ARC administrative staff and IT personnel will be on hand at these trainings to assist attendees with questions and collect feedback.

Don’t worry if you are not able to attend one of the above sessions, as more training will be added in advance of and following the new system launch. To the extent that we are able to do so, we will offer a Zoom webinar option – keep an eye out for those trainings that indicate Zoom will be available.

Please do not hesitate to contact the ARC administrative staff if you have any questions.

See you soon!
