What are lab animal allergies and occupational asthma?
Laboratory Animal Allergies (LAA) and Occupational Asthma (OA) develop from exposure to animal allergens, and are among the most common, serious occupational diseases of workers exposed to animals in laboratories.
Please review the Lab Animal Allergies & Occupational Asthma fact sheet to learn how to prevent LAA and OA. The ARC encourages all labs to print and post this flyer in a conspicuous place.
Please note that Principal Investigators are ultimately responsible for the safety of their laboratory staff.
For more information on LAA and OA, contact the Occupational Health Facility: Tel: (310) 825-6771 or UCLA Occupational Health Services website. For general questions about laboratory or biological safety, contact EH&S: Tel: (310) 825-5689 or EH&S website.
