What are lab animal allergies and occupational asthma?
Laboratory Animal Allergies (LAA) and Occupational Asthma (OA) develop from exposure to animal allergens, and are among the most common, serious occupational diseases of workers exposed to animals in laboratories.
Please review the Lab Animal Allergies & Occupational Asthma fact sheet (attached and available at https://ucla.box.com/ehs-lab-animal-allergies) to learn how to prevent LAA and OA. The ARC encourages all labs to print and post this flyer in a conspicuous place so that all workers may have access to the information.
Please note that Principal Investigators are ultimately responsible for the safety of their laboratory staff.
For more information on LAA and OA, contact the Occupational Health Facility: Tel: 310-825-6771. For general questions about laboratory or biological safety, contact EH&S: Tel: 310-825-5689.
