The following announcements are shared with you on behalf of the Medical Radiation Safety Committee (MRSC) and Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC):
New Online System (SafetyNet)
After several months of working with multiple stakeholder groups, we are pleased to announce the launch of the new MRSC/RDRC online system in SafetyNet. This system will replace section 8.11 in webIRB and the review process that followed. You can access the SafetyNet system using your UCLA Single Sign-on credentials to create and edit your submission. It is important to note that you must first create your webIRB application and identify use of radiation in section 2.3 of the webIRB SmartForm. Once your webIRB application is submitted, you will be able to create and submit your MRSC/RDRC application in SafetyNet.
Effective October 1, 2018, all new submissions and amendments for the use of radiological procedures and drugs in human research activities must be submitted using SafetyNet. The system has been populated with a “shell” submission for your currently approved radiation safety review and will include Forms A, B and C, as well as final approval letters and supporting documents.
If you are newly requesting MRSC/RDRC review for use of radiological procedures that are standard of care or beyond standard of care OR you are amending a previously approved study:
- Complete and submit your webIRB application, identifying radiation use in section 2.3
- Logon to SafetyNet with your UCLA Single Sign-on credentials
- Select “Create MRSC/RDRC Application”
- Complete and submit the form
You can view a video tutorial which outlines the submissions process in SafetyNet. Additionally, please contact the RSC office to arrange SafetyNet training for your group.
We welcome your comments and suggestions for SafetyNet.
Continuing Review
Effective January 1, 2019, all approved MRSC/RDRC submissions, including those migrated into the new system, will be subject to continuing review. Continuing review email notifications will be sent out once expiration periods are sent for your existing study. Note that we will work to set reasonable expirations that allow for sufficient advance notice to complete the short application for continuing approval. If your study has ended, please request closure in SafetyNet at your earliest convenience.
